The company Inflable is formed by Marçal Bayona and Aleix Melé. They met while studying acting at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona and shared the stage at the Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico. After years of working together, in 2022 they decided to create their own company to explore new theatrical languages and pursue a very specific dream — to raise a tent and turn it into a home.
Inflable works with physical theatre, puppetry and object theatre from a multidisciplinary perspective, with particular attention to light and sound as dramaturgical elements. Coming from text-based theatre, they are interested in exploring ways of telling stories without words — or with very few — and from unconventional points of view. Each production transforms the space: they alter the audience layout, the theatrical codes and the relationship with the spectator, understanding each creation as a new performative device.
At the heart of the project is their inflatable tent, a travelling 10x7 metre space (63 m² interior) with capacity for 45 people. Entering it means stepping directly onto the stage, with no transitions or foyers. The tent makes it possible to turn any place — a square, a school playground, a sports hall, an empty lot or a festival site — into a theatre. In this way, the company is committed to bringing the performing arts everywhere and to all audiences, generating ephemeral cultural spaces wherever they set up.
In 2024 they premiered MATZALI at Mostra Igualada Festival, directed by Montse Butjosa, a piece reflecting on what happens when we brake the natural rhythm of things. They are currently working on their second creation, Un 8, directed by Jordi Vilà, which will premiere in April 2026, also in Igualada. Un 8 begins with an intimate story to build a staged encounter that places imagination at its centre and explores the child’s gaze as a driving force for play and discovery.
With each project they expand the artistic team, surrounding themselves with the right professionals for each universe. At Inflable, curiosity, research and collaboration prevail. The tent is their second home: a travelling theatre capable of transforming public space into a meeting place.
